In this study, based on turn-taking process that is one of the areas of study in application-oriented stylistics, we will investigate the quality of initiating conversations, quantity and number of turns of each parties of the conversation, time and length of each person’s turn, orienting the topic of conversation by those present during conversation, and at the same time the effects of each of the items listed above on the amount of control and power of individuals in setting up the topic of conversation. In this study speech acts based on turn-taking system and naming in Rostam and Esfandiar epic is examined. The results indicates that the action and reaction of turn-taking in this epic narrative is consistent with speech analytical literature. It seems that in addition to the narrator’s impact on how the story moves forward, powerful and dominant personality of these two epic character has significant role in evaluating and predicting the end of the work. The order of turns and type of naiming in conversations from each of these two is affected by royal and heroic aspects of the situation, as narrator also choose naming which represents the physical power and those which implies spiritual power and splendor of the God according to these aspects for Rostam and Esfandiar, respectively.
